The pre-Classic version rd-160052 was created on May 16, 2009, at 00:42 CEST. This version is available in the Minecraft launcher, though the copy there was last modified on August 6, 2013, so it is not the original release.
Additions
Non-Mob Entities
- Particles – Introduced block particle effects that appear when blocks are broken.
- Particles fall to the ground before disappearing.
- Breaking a block generates exactly 64 particles.
Changes
Gameplay
- The game now supports fullscreen mode.
General
- The game’s title was simplified from “Minecraft: Order of the Stone” to just “Minecraft”.
Technical
- Loading worlds from rd-132328 or earlier results in completely flat worlds covered in stone.
- To create a new world, players must delete the level.dat file.
Bugs
- Alt-tabbing issue – The GUI disappears on Linux systems.
- Rendering glitches – Misaligned vertex arrays occasionally cause visual glitches. Restarting the game resolves the issue.
Trivia
- The “rd” in the version number refers to RubyDung, a game Notch worked on before Minecraft, whose codebase was reused.
- The version’s timestamp is slightly misleading: it was compiled at 00:42 CEST, not 00:52 as the label suggests.
- Screenshots taken with the Print Screen key capture the frame stored in memory, not necessarily what is currently displayed on the player’s screen.
