Java Edition Beta 1.1

Release Date: December 22, 2010
Overview:
Beta 1.1 is a Java Edition Beta release that introduced holiday-themed special events, including festive capes, along with gameplay changes, fixes, and minor block updates. The release experienced multiple rapid reuploads due to a missing font.txt file, which caused in-game text to become invisible.

Additions

General:

  • Holiday Capes:
    • Players logging in on December 25 received a Christmas-themed cape.
    • Players logging in on December 31 received a purple fireworks-themed cape celebrating New Year 2011.
    • These capes were temporary server-side changes and did not permanently modify player accounts.

Changes

Blocks:

  • Leaves:
    • Leaf decay behavior was completely rewritten for improved performance and consistency.

Removals

  • Font:
    • The font.txt file was accidentally removed in the initial release, causing all in-game text to appear invisible.

Fixes

  • Resolved frame rate drops in singleplayer mode.
  • Fixed an issue where players were disconnected due to excessive multiplayer data spam.
  • Corrected an item duplication bug in multiplayer.
  • Restored proper handling of fancy characters by separating font resources from the game code.

Gallery

  • Images of the modified Beta 1.1 version including the restored font.txt.
  • Screenshots showing holiday-themed capes and fixes in-game.

Trivia

  • Beta 1.1 had the shortest wait between major updates in Java Edition, released just 2 days after Beta 1.0.

Notes

  • The missing font issue could be temporarily fixed if the player manually added font.txt to the broken minecraft.jar.
