Frostburn Update – Java Edition 1.10

Release Date: June 8, 2016
Version(s): Java Edition 1.10

◄◄ Combat Update | Exploration Update ►►

The Frostburn Update (Java Edition 1.10) was officially launched on June 8, 2016. This was one of the smaller major updates to Minecraft but introduced a number of notable features, such as new hostile mob variants for deserts and snowy biomes, polar bears, structure blocks, and an auto-jump function. The update’s name was revealed by Mojang on the same day of release through a post on their official blog.

Development for 1.10 began shortly after the Combat Update (1.9) was finalized. Compared to most updates, this version had a very short testing period, with only three snapshots and two pre-releases being made available between May 18, 2016, and the official launch on June 8, 2016. Pre-releases were pushed on June 2 and June 7, the latter coming just a day before the full release.

  • Unlike long-developed updates such as 1.8 and 1.9 (which took roughly a year each), this was considered the smallest major update at the time.

  • 1.10.2 → Released shortly afterward to fix a crash introduced in 1.10.1.
