Minecraft Infdev includes 31 Java Edition versions, released between February 27 and June 30, 2010, plus a single Alpha version on June 30, 2010. The most significant update in Infdev is the introduction of infinite world generation, which replaced the limited maps of Indev. Alongside this, many new blocks, items, structures, and environmental features were added, including trees, brick pyramids, and naturally spawning ores.


Key Additions

General

  • Clouds: Can now render in 3D.
  • Graphics Options: Fast and Fancy toggle added.
  • Suffocation: Player now suffocates if trapped inside blocks.

Blocks

  • Sand & Gravel: Re-added, now with falling animation for sand.
  • Signs: Writable signs added.
  • Ladders: Climbable blocks.
  • Doors: Openable and closable.
  • Mob Spawners: Generate inside dungeons.
  • Stairs: Cobblestone and wood versions added.
  • Fire: Can now spread to flammable blocks.
  • Grass: Spreads to nearby dirt blocks.
  • Cobblestone & Obsidian: Generated when water interacts with lava; lava spreads only 4 blocks instead of 8.
  • Bedrock: Now generates at level 0.

Items

  • Golden Apples: Consumable for health.
  • Buckets: Can pick up water or lava.
  • Saddles: Found in dungeon chests.

Non-Mob Entities

  • Arrows: Re-added for combat.
  • Shadows: Added for more realistic visuals.
  • Minecarts: Rideable entities.
  • Rails: Tracks for minecarts.

World Generation

  • Infinite Worlds: Maps now extend infinitely in all directions.
  • Structures: Brick pyramids, obsidian walls, and naturally generated dungeons.
  • Trees: Reintroduced to the environment.
  • Ores: Generate naturally underground.
  • Caves: More regional, with varied tunnels and multiple exits.
  • Water & Lava Lakes: More natural springs.
  • Far Lands: Lines of obsidian blocks extending infinitely along the X and Z axes.

Changes from Previous Versions

General

  • Sky Color: Completely blue (#0000FF).
  • Player Mechanics: Drops items upon death and dies if falling out of the world.
  • Daylight Cycle: Days are slightly longer than nights.

Mobs

  • Entities: Now save correctly after world reloads.

Structures & Terrain

  • Indev House: Removed.
  • Caves: More variety, including Swiss-cheese-like formations.
  • Rooms: Now have 1–5 exits, creating natural hubs underground.

Trivia

  • Infdev is the first Minecraft phase with infinite maps.
  • Introduced brick pyramids as naturally occurring structures.
  • Many features from Indev were polished or reimplemented.
