Minecraft Java Edition – Late Classic

Late Classic refers to a series of seven Java Edition Classic versions released between October 27 and November 10, 2009. All versions were primarily in Creative mode, with the exception of 0.30, which included a Survival mode variant. Players could also enable Survival mode in any of these versions by modifying the Minecraft.class file within minecraft.jar.


Additions & Features

Building Mechanics

  • Left-click: Removes blocks from the world.
  • Right-click: Places blocks in the world.
  • New block added: Obsidian, providing durability and new building possibilities.

Mobs

  • Sheep were introduced as one of the first passive mobs in this phase.

Multiplayer Improvements

  • Players push each other when standing adjacent, adding realism to movement.
  • Opping/deopping players now applies instantly, without requiring a server reload.
  • Players can build through other players, enabling easier collaborative construction.
  • Player name tags only appear when the mouse hovers over another player.

Options & Settings

  • Rain toggle added to options menu.
  • Tree growth toggle added to server.properties, allowing control over automatic tree generation.

General Changes

  • Creative mode was reintroduced, allowing unlimited building resources.
  • Players gained the ability to save levels locally as .mine files for offline use.
