The pre-Classic version rd-132328 of Minecraft was released on May 13, 2009, at 23:28 CEST. This release is notable for introducing mobs into the game for the first time. Like earlier pre-Classic versions, the launcher copy was last updated on August 6, 2013, so it is not entirely original.
Additions
Mobs
- The mobs in this version move randomly across the map, waving their arms without proper AI or movement animations.
- They were the first mobs added to Minecraft.
- Spawn Mechanics – 100 mobs are generated at random positions each time the world is loaded.
- Non-Persistent – Mobs do not save in the level.dat file. Closing and reopening the world despawns old mobs and spawns new ones.
- Origin – These mobs were reused from Zombie Town, a previous project by Notch before Minecraft.
- In the game’s code, these mobs are referred to as zombies.
General
- World Spawn – Players are intended to gradually rise to ground level if they spawn below the world, but spawning under the world is impossible without modifications, so this feature was unused.
Trivia
- The “rd” in the version number (rd-132328) stands for RubyDung, a game Notch worked on before Minecraft, whose codebase was reused.
- This version contains the oldest publicly known Minecraft world level.
- Steve, Minecraft’s iconic character, made his first appearance in this version.
