Overview:
The Wild Update, officially released for Minecraft on June 7, 2022, introduces a blend of eerie underground landscapes and lush swampy biomes. This major update, themed around “wilderness and mysterious threats,” brought players new adventures, creatures, blocks, and items.

Key Features

New Biomes

  1. Deep Dark
    • Located far underground, often beneath mountain ranges.
    • Filled with new sculk blocks (Sculk, Sculk Veins, Sculk Catalysts, Sculk Sensors, Sculk Shriekers).
    • Home to the Ancient City structure and the terrifying Warden.
  2. Mangrove Swamp
    • Features mangrove trees, muddy terrain, dead bushes, and lily pads.
    • Contains unique blocks like mud, packed mud, and mangrove wood types.

New Blocks

  • Froglight: Dropped by frogs consuming magma cubes. Its color varies by frog type.
  • Frogspawn: Produced when two frogs breed; hatches into tadpoles. Not obtainable with Silk Touch.
  • Reinforced Deepslate: Found in Ancient Cities; cannot be moved by pistons and drops nothing when mined.

  • Mud: Found in mangrove swamps or made by using a water bottle on dirt. Converts to clay above pointed dripstone.
  • Packed Mud, Mud Bricks, Mud Brick Stairs, Slabs, Walls, Muddy Mangrove Roots

Sculk Blocks (Deep Dark):

  • Sculk Catalyst: Converts nearby blocks to sculk when mobs die nearby.
  • Sculk Shrieker: Emits shrieks; triggers the Warden if activated too many times.
  • Sculk Sensor: Detects vibrations within 8 blocks; outputs redstone signals.
  • Sculk Vein: Decorative and naturally occurring in the Deep Dark.

New Items

  • Bucket of Tadpole: Captures and transports tadpoles.
  • Echo Shard: Found in Ancient Cities; used to craft the Recovery Compass.
  • Goat Horns: Obtained when goats ram blocks; 8 variants exist.
  • Recovery Compass: Points to your last death location.
  • New Music Disc: “Five” by Samuel Åberg (crafted from 9 disc fragments).

Spawn Eggs: Allay, Frog, Tadpole, Warden, Ender Dragon, Iron Golem, Snow Golem, Trader Llama (Bedrock only), Wither.


New Mobs

  1. Allay:
    • Found in pillager outposts or woodland mansions.
    • Collects nearby items and returns them to the player or a note block.
  2. Frog & Tadpole:
    • Frog spawns in swamps and mangrove swamps; eats magma cubes and small slimes.
    • Tadpoles hatch from frogspawn; grow depending on the biome.
  3. Warden:
    • Extremely powerful, blind, and detects players via vibrations and smell.
    • Roars and attacks with a sonic boom that bypasses armor and shields.
    • Drops Sculk Catalyst upon death.

Non-Mob Entities

  • Boat with Chest & Mangrove Boat: Storage-enabled boats.
  • Display Entities: For blocks, items, and text displays.
  • Interaction Entities: Records player actions for /execute commands and triggers advancements.

Structures

  • Ancient City: Underground structure in Deep Dark; contains enchanted golden apples, music discs, echo shards, and Swift Sneak enchanted books.
  • Mangrove Trees: Naturally generate in mangrove swamps.

Enchantments

  • Swift Sneak: Increases sneaking speed when applied to leggings.

Status Effects

  • Darkness: Triggered near a Warden or by activating a Sculk Shrieker. Limits visibility up to 14 blocks.

Music

  • Lena Raine composed three ambient tracks for various overworld areas.
  • Samuel Åberg composed “Five”, playable via disc fragments in the Ancient City.

Changes & Updates

  • Polar Bear spawn eggs: Color adjustment.
  • Vex: Model and texture updated.

Minor Revisions (Java & Bedrock)

  • Java: Versions 1.19.1 → 1.19.83 included bug fixes, creative inventory overhaul, new skins, /ride & /damage commands, and Allay duplication fixes.
  • Bedrock: Versions 1.19.2 → 1.19.81 aligned features with Java Edition and fixed bugs.

Trivia

  • Mud existed previously as a fluid in Minecraft Earth.
  • Fireflies were planned but delayed due to ecological accuracy; later added as firefly bushes.
  • Mojang released a free adventure game, Craft Your Own Adventure: Wild Tales, to promote the update.
