Overview:
Spring to Life is a special Minecraft game drop released on March 25, 2025. This update introduced both Java Edition 1.21.5 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.70. It brought several new environmental and mob features, including warm and cold variants for some passive animals, additional foliage and decorative blocks for biomes, ambient sounds, and visual effects like falling leaf particles.
During its development phase, the update was internally called Spring Drop 2025 or Drop 1 2025 for the Bedrock Edition experiment. The final name and release date were officially announced during Minecraft LIVE – March 2025 on March 22, 2025.

Blocks
Leaf Litter
- A decorative block found in forests, dark forests, and wooded badlands.
- Functions similarly to pink petals.
- Can be smelted from any type of leaf block.
Wildflowers
- New flower types appearing in birch forests, old-growth birch forests, and meadows.
- Works the same way as pink petals.

Bush
- Generates naturally in biomes such as Plains, Windswept Hills, Windswept Gravelly Hills, Windswept Forest, Rivers, Frozen Rivers, Forests, Birch Forests, and Old Growth Birch Forests.
Firefly Bush
- Found near swamps and rivers.
- Emits glowing firefly particles when light level is 13 or lower (particles can spread up to 5 blocks).
- Produces a buzzing sound effect.
Cactus Flower
- A flower that grows on cacti in deserts and badlands.
Short Dry Grass
- Appears in deserts and all badlands variants.
Tall Dry Grass
- Also appears in deserts and badlands biomes.

Blue Egg
- Laid by the cold variant of chickens.
- Can hatch into a cold chicken variant.
Brown Egg
- Laid by warm chicken variants.
- Can hatch into a warm chicken variant.
Explorer Maps
- Village Map: Sold by cartographers, helps locate villages.
- Jungle Explorer Map: Sold by cartographers, locates jungle pyramids.
- Swamp Explorer Map: Sold by cartographers, locates swamp huts.

Temperature Variants
- Pigs, cows, and chickens now have cold and warm variants.
- Spawn variant is determined by biome.
- Breeding produces a baby with a randomly selected variant from the parents.
- Temperate variants spawn when the biome does not match cold or warm conditions.
Pig Variants
- Temperate Pig: Original pig variant.
- Cold Pig: Found in cold biomes.
- Warm Pig: Found in warm biomes.
Cow Variants
- Temperate Cow: Original cow variant with updated texture and model.
- Cold Cow: Spawns in cold biomes.
- Warm Cow: Spawns in warm biomes.
Chicken Variants
- Temperate Chicken: Original chicken variant.
- Cold Chicken: Spawns in cold biomes.
- Warm Chicken: Spawns in warm biomes.
World Generation
Fallen Trees (Java Edition only)
- Decorative fallen trees now appear in Java Edition (already in Bedrock).
- Available in Oak, Spruce, Birch, and Jungle wood variants.
- Birch fallen trees can be shorter or longer versions.
- Sometimes decorated with mushrooms or vines.
- Generate in all biomes that contain their standing counterparts except Meadow, Bamboo Jungle, River, Grove, and Flower Forest.

Dead Bush
- Emits ambient sounds when placed atop two blocks of sand, red sand, or terracotta of any color.
Lodestone
- Can now spawn in ruined portals.
- Crafting recipe changed to require iron ingots instead of netherite ingots.

- All leaf blocks now have a chance to emit falling leaf particles.
Sand, Red Sand, and Terracotta
- Ambient sounds may play when blocks of the same type surround them on at least three sides within eight blocks.

Wandering Trader
- Improved trade options, prices, and stock.
- Sells logs of all tree types, enchanted iron pickaxes, and potions.
- Buys specific items like water bottles, milk buckets, and hay bales.
Sheep
- Wool color now depends on the biome of spawning.
- Cold biomes: more black, gray, white, brown; Rare pink.
- Warm biomes: more brown; Rare pink.
- Temperate biomes remain unchanged.
- Java Edition now correctly displays undercoat wool colors.
Mooshroom and Brown Mooshroom
- Texture updated; snout extended by one pixel.
Camel
- Now spawns across all deserts, not limited to villages.
Wolf
- Wolves have sound personalities (Big, Classic, Cute, Puglin, Angry, Grumpy, Sad).
- Personality affects bark, panting, whining, and growling sounds.
