Overview:
The Bats & Pots update enhances gameplay around decorated pots, revamps bats, and introduces experimental features intended for the next major Minecraft update. Released as a game drop on December 5, 2023, it is available for Java Edition 1.20.3 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.50. Although initially not labeled as a game drop, it was retroactively classified as such after the release of the Armored Paws update.
Update Theme:
Bats & Pots focuses on improving interactive blocks (specifically decorated pots) and adjusting mob behavior for a richer in-game experience. It also includes optional experimental features for future updates.

Key Additions & Changes
Decorated Pot Improvements:
- Can now hold up to one stack of a single item type.
- Compatible with hoppers, droppers, and minecarts with hoppers for automated item insertion/extraction.
- Redstone comparators can detect the number of items inside.
- Players can interact directly to place items into pots, causing them to wobble and emit a vibration frequency of 11.
- Pots do not have a GUI; breaking the pot retrieves its content.
- Can now be broken by projectiles, causing them to shatter and drop items.
- New sound effects were added for breaking, shattering, and stepping on pots.
- Pots now stack up to 64 in inventory.
- Appears under the Redstone tab in Creative mode.
- Java Edition exclusive:
- If the
crackedblockstate istrue, pots always shatter when broken. - Supports loot tables via the
LootTabletag key.
- If the
Bat Changes:
- Completely updated model, textures, and animations for a more dynamic appearance.
