Indev 0.31 represents a series of 34 versions released during the development phase of Minecraft’s Indev period. All shared the in-game version number 0.31. These updates reintroduced Survival mode and expanded the game with crafting, new blocks, items, and enhanced world generation options, including diverse level types and themes.

World Generation

  • Level Options: Island, Floating, Flat, Inland
  • Level Shapes: Square, Long, Deep
  • Level Sizes: Small, Normal, Huge
  • Level Themes: Normal, Hell
  • Liquid Spawners: Fluids can spawn above sea level and on floating islands

Changes

General

  • Explosions weaken when passing through tougher blocks

Blocks

  • Leaves cast shadows
  • Grass can grow in dimly lit areas
  • Lava ignites flammable materials
  • Water physics updated:
    • Stays on surface
    • Doesn’t spread over unfilled areas
    • Evaporation occurs (2/3 chance) or copies (1/3 chance)

Mobs

  • Avoid environmental damage (cliffs, fire)
  • Passive mobs spawn only in bright areas
  • Hostile mobs spawn only in dark areas

Non-Mob Entities

  • All items and mobs are flammable

World Generation

  • Oceans now contain infinite water
